Damien Mahoney producing Ruth Blake’s Brave Ships

Oct 28, 2020

In addition to their work together on Caulbearers album tracks, Ruth Blake and Damien Mahoney have been collaborating for the production of Ruth’s song ‘Brave Ships’.

Following two album releases of her ‘multi-faceted and poignant, contemporary folk’, Ruth had been looking to explore different ways of producing her songs. A pull towards an expansive, more rhythmically-focussed sound led to discussions with Damien about how they could approach recording Brave Ships together.

Over a series of sessions in Manchester, Ruth has been laying down guitar and vocal tracks with Damien’s local connections in the area helping to bring in a host of other Manchester-based musicians for the recording. These include Rob Turner (Go Go Penguin) on drums, Alan Keary (Shunya) on cello, violin and viola, Pete Barrett (Colourfield) on electric guitar and Dave Tompkins (Ysbryd /Centrifuge Network) on bass.

Expect to hear a release of the track and a video later this year…
